To test for:



-Nitrate:
Add dilute sodium hydoxide, add a piece of aluminium foil and heat gently. Test for gas with a moist red litmus paper. Ammonia gas liberated.


-Carbonate:
Add dilute hydrochloric acid, and pass gas into limewater. White precipitate forms. Carbon dioxide gas liberated.


-Chloride:
Add dilute nitric acid, than add silver nitrate. White precipitate of silver chloride formed.
Add aqueous lead(II) nitrate. White precipitate of lead(II) chloride formed.


-Iodide:
Add dilute nitric acid, than add silver nitrate. Pale yellow precipitate of silver iodide formed.
Add aqueous lead(II) nitrate. Bright yellow precipitate of lead(II) iodide.


-Sulphate:
Add dilute hydrochloric acid. Add aqueous barium chloride. White precipitate of barium sulphate formed.

The Runaway Terrapin


Once upon a time, there were 3 terappins living in a pond. One day, the owner's sister brought the smallest out in a container. When she came home, she left the container right beside the pond.


The next day, when the owner came home, she decided to take a peek at her pets. to her horror, she found 1 missing. The smallest one. Frantically, she searched the entire house in hopes of finding her pet. Finally, she found it hiding behind the pipe in her balcony, its' 4 limbs and head hidden from sight, with only a tiny glimpse of its' tail peeking out from the back of the shell. What a good thing the terappin did not run into the house!
